Children must wear plain white t-shirts and black shorts, leggings or jogging bottoms. Please leave children's P.E. kits at school; we will send it home to be washed every half term. For outdoor games on Monday, children will need pumps or trainers (not their school shoes) and jogging trousers for the winter.

Long hair must be tied back and no jewellery please. In Year 2 children should be able to change for P.E. by themselves.

Spellings

Spellings are given out on Friday and need to be learned for the test the following Friday. Please help your child to learn their spellings at home – remember Look, Say, Cover, Write and Check. See if your children can write sentences using their spellings.

Homework

Homework is given out on Friday and needs to be completed by the following Wednesday.

Visits

During the year we will make regular visits to Levenshulme Library, where the children will be able to choose books to bring back to school. We will also visit Highfield Park and other places in the local area.

Reading books

Your child needs to bring their book bag to school every day. Children need to try and do as much reading as possible at home and this needs to be written down in their reading record. When your child finishes their reading book they can complete their Accelerated Reading quiz in the morning. We will periodically assess your child’s reading at the end of each half term.

Your child will also be given key word lists that you can help them to learn to read and write at home. By the end of Class 2 children should be able to read and spell most of the key words.

Water bottles

All children must have a water bottle in school, this needs to be labelled and needs to have a sports top. Water bottles are to be left at school and be refilled in the morning.

Golden Time

We have golden time on a Friday. During golden time children can take part in a range of activities. Children who have not behaved appropriately during the week may have to miss either five or ten minutes of their golden time.

Friday assembly

Children who have received certificates for out of school activities such as swimming or sporting activities can bring their certificates to show in good work assembly on Friday mornings. During the year there will be an opportunity for parents to come and watch the children in their class assembly. The dates for these will be given nearer the time.
