Pupil Sport Premium
To assist the delivery of high-quality PE and sport, each primary school receives £16,000 per year, plus an additional £10 per pupil from Y1-6. For St. Andrew’s this means £19,300 in the academic year 2018/19.
This funding, which doubled last year for all schools with the addition of the funds brought in by the government’s ‘sugar-tax’, is called The Sport Premium, and of its many purposes the main ones are to:
• allow schools to increase the skills of their staff by providing high quality professional development opportunities
• further increase the high quality of PE lessons provided to pupils (whether delivered by external providers or school staff)
• increase opportunities for children to participate in extra-curricular sport, and link this into local clubs and extended services
• provide such a variety of opportunities for our children that they will develop a lifelong love of sport
• allow schools to work with children and families to address healthy diets, especially in terms of being sugar-smart
• enable schools to focus further resources on promoting positive physical and mental health and wellbeing.
