On June 19th all of our instrumentalists (54 of them) from Y4 - Y6 (and a talented Y2 student) went to the Bridgewater Hall to play and sing with the Halle Orchestra. It was a fantastic opportunity and the children performed and behaved brilliantly. Instruments included: cellos, violins, violas, trumpets, cornets, euphoniums, trombones, a tenor horn, a glockenspiel and guitars. The parents who came along to watch seemed to enjoy themselves too - joining in with singing and dancing the Charlston!

Year 3 African drumming and dance (16 images)

As part of Year 3’s Africa topic we had special visitors who taught us about African drumming and dance. We played djembe drums which were from Senegal and Guinea in West Africa. We loved learning different drum beats and a sequence of dance moves – we had lots of fun!

This half term Year 5 have been learning about space. They visited Jodrell Bank, home of the giant Lovell Telescope!

Year 3 in 'The Cave'! (33 images)

In our English lessons in year 3 we are looking at descriptive settings and using Roald Dahl’s ‘The BFG’ to help us. We are focusing on ‘The Cave’ chapter and our teachers created a giant’s cave in our playground. We thought about our senses and came up with words and sentences to describe what we could see, feel, hear and smell. We really enjoyed being in the giant’s cave but we’re glad we escaped before he came back!

On Tuesday 7th July Big Ministries visited St Andrew's and children in Years 1-6 took part in fun dance and drama workshops.

This half term our topic has been Manchester artist L.S Lowry. Year 3 went to the Lowry theatre and took part in drama and art workshops. We looked around the gallery at the Lowry paintings then used some of his techniques in our own drawings. In the drama workshops we used Lowry paintings as a stimulus to create a story. We had a fantastic day out!

3C Making Healthy Sandwiches (19 images)

This half term we have had Jack from Sale Sharks teaching us how to play tag rugby and about healthy eating as part of an ‘Eat well and play safe’ programme. For our last session we played games of tag rugby using all the skills we'd learnt over the past 6 weeks and then made our own healthy sandwiches – they were delicious!

1G's Healthy Snack Cafe (23 images)

1G have been learning about healthy snacks. They discussed healthy food and made menus before preparing all of the healthy food themselves, then invited parents to join them to enjoy it!

This half term Year 3 are very lucky to have Sale Sharks coming into school to teach them how to play tag rugby and teach them about healthy eating as part of an 'Eat Well, Play Safe' program.

Litter poster winners have their boards put up in Greenbank Playing Fields (13 images)

We are very proud that the Key stage 2 children who won the litter poster competition have now painted their boards and they have been put up in Greenbank Playing Fields (Thanks to David Marsh!). The boards look amazing and hopefully they will encourage the Levenshulme community to pick up their litter and dog mess and make Levy a greener, cleaner place!
