Blue Peter Performance December 2020

In December 2020, the choir had the fantastic opportunity of performing on the Blue Peter Christmas Special. The film crew came to St Andrew’s, and the children were filmed outside in their bubbles. Here are some photos of our filming day, and here is a link if you would like to see us in action.

Stay Safe (2 images)

The children who have been at school this week have been taking part in fun activities. They wanted to send an important message to encourage people to stay at home to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Choir sing at Manchester Cathedral (15 images)

On December 18th, the choir went to perform at Manchester Cathedral as part of Trinity High School’s carol service. The children sang beautifully and we received many compliments from parents and Trinity staff.

Christmas Music Concerts (36 images)

Take a look at the pictures of our St Andrew’s Christmas Music concerts. We now have a wider range of musical instruments than ever before, including: guitars, violins, violas, cellos, trumpets, cornets, trombones, euphoniums, horns and recorders. Everyone in KS2 was involved, as each year group also prepared and sang their own song – beautifully.

Choir visit Ferguson Court (8 images)

The choir went to sing carols at Ferguson Court, flats for retired people. The residents enjoy our bi-annual visit, and we enjoy going to sing for them. We take carol booklets as they love to join in with us for the traditional carols. We make Christmas cards which we give to them at the end.

Year 4 Chester Trip (20 images)

Year 4 visited Chester on Monday 1stJuly. We have all been excited for this trip for months! When we arrived in Chester we went for a walk around the Roman gardens and sat by the river for a little bit. We got the opportunity to be Roman soldiers, learn Roman formations and were given shields to march through Chester shouting ‘Sin sin sin dex sin’. After that we visited the Roman Museum where they went into a ship and learned about the lives of Ancient Romans.

Come and Play with the Halle (41 images)

In June 2019, all the children who play a musical instrument visited the Bridgewater Hall to play with the Hallé Orchestra. We spent a couple of months learning 2 pieces of music and 2 songs in school, then we went to perform these pieces/songs along with the Hallé Orchestra and many other schools. It was great fun, with a ‘Lunar landing/Space’ theme, to celebrate 50 years since the first lunar landing. The presenter dressed up as a spaceman as you can see in some of the photos. Also we all had to dance like aliens – even the teachers!

Manchester Camerata Project (25 images)

This term 5S have been involved in an exciting project with the Manchester Camerata Orchestra. A composer and percussionist came into school to work with the children on writing their own song, which fitted into a story (The Lorax by Dr Seuss) about ‘Helping the Environment’. Our song was about the Truffula Trees. We performed this in the Royal Northern College of Music, along with other Manchester schools. Each school performed their own song, accompanied by Camerata musicians, to tell the story.

Halle for Youth (8 images)

In March, Y6 visited the Bridgewater Hall to see the Hallé Orchestra perform. This was a fantastic opportunity for the children to listen the ‘Conflict and Resolution’ Hallé For Youth programme, featuring music by Tchaikovksy and Holst, as well as the well-known theme from Star Wars. There were also songs to join in with.
