St Andrew's C of E Primary School

Pupils Leadership

At St Andrew's we provide pupils with as many opportunities as possible to develop their leadership skills. In particular in KS2 we invite pupils to take part in more formal activities, that enable them to work not only on leadership skills, but also on teamwork, negotiation and influencing skills, creativity and idea generation. These opportunities are:

Ethos Council

The St. Andrew's Ethos Council are a team of pupils who are proud to be responsible for helping with all aspects and ideas of worship and beliefs in our school. The Ethos Council are chosen on a yearly basis and attend weekly meetings with Mrs Mudd. At the start of the academic year, children who would like to be members of the Ethos Council put their names forward and compose a short letter explaining why they would like to join.

The Ethos Council aims to promote our school values, enhance children’s education and develop links within the community. The children meet once every week to take part in various projects.

Our school is multi-cultural; our school family is made up of children from many different faiths. We all share the same values and we are determined to uphold these values in our school. The Ethos Council meet in order to discuss aspects of our school’s commitment to our Christian ethos, to work on the value for that term and decide on the activities that they would like to do. Members of the Ethos Council write prayers which are then shared in our collective worship.

House Captains

At St. Andrew's, all children in Key Stage 2 are members of a House. Our Houses are named after parks surrounding our school - Greenbank, Errwood, Highfield and Cringle. Children earn House Points for good work and behaviour. House Points are collected each week and the winning House is announced in our Friday assembly. At the end of the year, the House with the most points has their name engraved on the House Shield as that year's champions!

Each House votes to elect their House Captains for the year, two children from Year 6. The role of House Captain is one of privilege, pride and responsibility. They are more than just a title and badge and require dedication and commitment for an entire year. The children take an active role in Celebration Assemblies and lead charitable events - this may include major national events e.g. Children in Need or more local events e.g food collection for the Oasis Centre.

As House Captains, we expect children:

  • To be positive role models and ambassadors for the school, demonstrating our school values.
  • To be enthusiastic and committed to the House System at St. Andrew's.
  • To be friendly and positive with all students, particularly within your House.
  • To be part of the team of House Captains who work together to achieve success for all.

Green Team

The St Andrew's Green Team are a group of children in Key Stage 2, a boy and a girl from each class, who check that the rest of the school are being green! They make sure that paper is being recycled and that no energy is being wasted, for example turning lights off when nobody is in the room. All of the children in school were asked to design a logo for the Green Team and the winning designers became part of the team.
